Eh, it's not so bad. I moved into a room with a random person last year, and with 3 random people sharing the apartment. It wasn't bad--while we weren't best friends, it was pretty cordial and we parted on good terms. Honestly, I know far more people who have gotten along superbly with their roommates and become friends than those who have had horrid experiences. Most people are at least capable of coexisting. Also, the nice part of living on campus is that if you DO get a roommate you are utterly incompatible with, you can go to the administration and request a room transfer. Which...so isn't something that is possible in the outside, non-school world xD
If it means anything, I am moving back on campus next year and I have no idea who my roommate will be, but I'm sufficiently optimistic that we'll at least get along that I'm not worried at all :) I'd say go for it.
